What can you get for $125,000? What can you get for $125,000?
A spacious pool home, direct Gulf of Mexico access or an address in a ritzy, established community.
Prized attributes such as these can now be considered by home shoppers in the $125,000 price range — roughly $100,000 to $150,000.
That was rarely the case during the frenzied times of 2005, when the median price of existing single-family homes in Lee County reached a record high of $322,300.
This is the sixth installment of the News-Press’ look at how much home can be purchased at certain price points today, as compared to four years ago.
Real estate agents say getting twice as much for the money is indeed possible, given the flood of foreclosed homes that has cascaded over the market. That money can buy everything from a 1960s- or 1970s-era house on a canal-side lot, to a sparkling new home home in a gated, south Fort Myers development.
Pools and backyard spas, hardwood floors, granite counters, wooded lots, recently remodeled interiors and more are now all in play.
